Maine's Premier Mystery Dinner Theater

How long are your performances?

Our mystery shows are usually performed between the courses of a meal. The show might start and 15 minutes later the soup is served. Another scene will follow and soup is cleared and salad served. The net result is that your guests are well fed and entertained at the same time.

A well paced show with a very competent kitchen and wait staff can be done in about 2 hours, depending on the number of guests you have.
We also do improvisational comedy where we create comedy from audience suggestions. We also have mystery improv where we create a mystery from audience suggestions. Both offerings run about an hour and are priced less than the full length mystery show.

"Love Letters" runs for about an hour and 15 minutes.

Why should I consider your troupe?

We’ve performed over 710 shows in the past 20 years. We can supply you with an impressive list of satisfied clients who would be glad to share with you the joys of hiring Mystery for Hire. Bottom line-we are experienced and professional and can insure that your guests will have a great evening of fun.

And the cost?

Our improv comedy, improv mystery and "Love Letters" usually ranges from $800 to $1500 depending on the date of the show and location selected for a performance and the number of guests you expect.

A full mystery show usually ranges from $1500 to $2500 depending on the date of the show and location selected for a performance and the number of guests you expect. This price provides a full mystery show, a crew of experienced professional actors and all the fun and games that go along with the event. We strive to work the best we can in the confines of your budget.

Any price breaks?

We will do our best to meet the needs of your budget. Let's discuss possibilities.

Fair warning...you’ll find other troupes that might charge far less and you’ll be tempted to hire them. Please remember, you get what you pay for and people who have gone this route have often been disappointed with the results. Our experience in doing murder mystery shows will pay off many times over with your guests having a great time.

What mystery shows do you offer?

Each show has a different theme that makes the setting of the mystery. “Politics Can Be Murder” takes place at a real live political debate. “Marriage Can Be a Mystery” explores the fun of a mystery at a wedding. “Bingo Spells Murder” takes place at a church bingo hall where guests actually play bingo.
We work closely with you to help identify the show that will best suit your guests. Some shows have outrageous humor while others are a bit tamer. We assure you that we’ll find the best match for your event.

How do we book you?

After we confirm the date and price, we’ll send you a contract. We usually require a 50% deposit of the show fee to hold the date for you, with the remaining amount paid on the night of the show. We’ll also help you pick the show that best meets your need.

Most show contracts also require you to provide meals for cast members and, on rare occasions, overnight accommodations. These items will be discussed before completing the contract.

Do you have references? How do we learn more about you?

We can supply you with a list of references usually from previous clients similar to your organization. (i.e. If you are a college seeking a reference, we’ll provide you the name of a college person who has hired us.)

Do you have a video of what you do?

At the moment, we don’t. We think you can learn all about us through our clients who have hired us in the past.

Can we attend one of your shows?

If time and location can be arranged, we’d love to have you as a guest at one of our shows so you can see what we do. Most of our shows are done privately for a group/association and we’d have to check in advance to see if you can attend. For our public shows performed at a restaurant setting, we can usually offer you at least one complimentary ticket to attend.
